Meet the Investment Policy Committee at Fisher Investments

0:06 The investment policy committee is comprised of five members. The chairman
0:10 of our firm, of course, Ken Fisher, Jeff Silk, Aaron Anderson, Bill Glaser and
0:16 myself, Michael Hanson. I think the Investment Policy Committee is very
0:20 unique relative to the rest of the industry for a variety of ways. One of
0:24 the things that I think is so important to Ken in starting the private client
0:28 group now some many years ago was that how can we give our clients access to
0:33 world-class money management but in a competitive way and in a way that’s
0:38 truly appropriate for our customer. We have a five-member group that is solely
0:42 focused on portfolios and what’s in our client mandates. What we don’t focus on
0:48 is things like sales, administrative duties, and even to some extent service
0:52 although we’re out speaking to our clients very frequently, our sole
0:55 responsibility is the portfolios and we’ve specialized the rest of the tasks
0:59 of this business to others. That alone I think is very unique because in
1:03 most circumstances in this industry most advisors have to do the selling, the
1:07 service, and the trading and strategy all at once which we simply don’t view as
1:11 optimal. We have an entire research staff that assists us in every facet of the
1:17 process and so we have an entire group which we refer to as our capital markets
1:21 innovation group which is dedicated to statistical analysis and doing empirical
1:26 work across the world to help us develop ideas and themes but in a very rigorous
1:31 way. We have a securities team that assists us in stock selection all the
1:36 way on through from creating and looking at stock ideas to actually
1:41 monitoring over time and making sure that the reasons that we originally
1:44 owned a stock remain consistent. And lastly, we have a capital markets group
1:49 which is sort of our macro analysis and they assist us with fundamental views
1:53 about how the world works today and help us generate investing themes. What
1:58 unifies us is that we have very similar outlooks on the world in a similar
2:02 investing philosophy. We don’t always agree with each other but that’s part of
2:06 the process of the committee is to work out what we think the best step is
2:09 moving forward and what unifies us is a philosophy
2:12 about how the world might work.
In this video, Senior Vice President of Research Michael Hanson discusses how Fisher Investments’ Investment Policy Committee benefits clients. The five-member Investment Policy Committee reviews global economic and market conditions and makes all strategic investment decisions for institutional and private client portfolios. The Investment Policy Committee has over 150 combined years of industry experience and comprises Ken Fisher, Jeff Silk, Bill Glaser, Aaron Anderson and Michael Hanson.
Fisher Investments’ Investment Policy Committee is supported by a large Research Department composed of investment professionals dedicated to assisting the Investment Policy Committee with every step of the investment process. For example, Fisher Investments’ Capital Markets Research Team reviews regions, countries, sectors and industries from a top-down perspective while the Securities Research Team analyzes individual securities from a fundamental, bottom-up perspective. Fisher Investments’ Capital Markets Innovation Team reviews, develops and refines proprietary capital markets technology (ways to analyze markets).
In Fisher Investments’ view, when reviewing different money management options, it is important to understand who your investment decision-maker will be. Is it the person or company you are hiring? Is it being outsourced to someone else? What is their level of expertise? Please watch the video and review the additional FAQs below to see how Fisher Investments’ Investment Policy Committee’s experience and structure make us unique in our industry.
